Ankle fractures are among the common traumatic injuries that present to hospitals which can result in significant functional impairment and disability. Rehabilitation Case Management in ankle fractures is focused around healing and recovery of functional capability to facilitate return to activities of daily living, leisure and work. In this article, I look at some of the considerations for fracture management and rehabilitation from a case manager's perspective.

A fracture is a break in the bone which can range from a thin crack to complete break where the bone fragment pierces through the skin. Fractures typically result from a fall, a collision, direct strikes to the body, other traumatic events such as road traffic accident (RTA) or gunshot wounds or sport injuries.
